Openside Rugby Rankings

With the Tri Nations wooden spoon on the line, South Africa and Australia provided rugby fans with a great spectacle this weekend.

For most of the game, it appeared as if we were in for a repeat of last weekend's game in Pretoria. The Aussies took a commanding lead in the first half by 31 points to 6. The Springboks then manufactured an amazing come back to lead by one point, 39-38 with five minutes left. Apart from an O'Connor try the Aussies had given a poor performance during the second half but credit has to go the Boks who played out of their socks in the second session.

However this week the game had a different ending with Kurtley Beale landing a massive 55 metre penalty kick to end the game, with the scoreline 41 to 39 to Australia and the wooden spoon firmly in the hands of the South Africans.

Despite the spoils of this year's Tri Nations being handed out, there is still one game left. A game meaningless in terms of the standings but definitely not meaningless to Australians and New Zealanders. Judging by the standard of rugby in this year's Tri Nations we should be in for another corker next weekend in Sydney. Enjoy!
